What is the average cost, price to hire a wedding photographer in Dublin and Ireland?

For 2021, according to OneFabDay.com, about the cost of a wedding – couples in Ireland will spend an average of between €2,000 and €4,000 on wedding photography. Most (nearly 70%) will spend between €2,000 and €4,000 and others might find a friend with a camera or an uncle. Of course, that’s just an average and doesn’t tell the whole story. Wedding photography prices can vary based on many factors. In general, more experienced photographers have higher pricing…on other side spending more money might not always mean getting better photos.

A common rule of thumb is to expect to spend 10-15% of your total budget on photography. If photography is more important you may spend more, or vice-versa.

In the Irish market there are three distinct “Tiers” of pricing with photographers that can start at €1,000 or less and go as high as €6,000 or more. In the lowest tier (by price) you’ll find “hobby” photographers and high-volume studios. At the most expensive end, you’ll find a photographers who serve to the most exclusive events and clients. In the middle (where I consider myself to be), you’ll find the boutiques that emphasize a blend of great customer service, overall value and the best photography at any price point.

A Quick Answer is: An average cost price for wedding photography package in 2020/2021 in Ireland (Cork, Dublin, Galway) according to OneFabDay is between €2,000 and €4,000.

Why does wedding photography cost so much?

The question is really back to you

How Important are Wedding Photographs to You?How important are Wedding Memories to You?

I have seen when couples are making savings over wedding photographers of €200 or €600 to keep the budget lower. The choice was made based on a financial requirements and I totally respect that! This saving can sometimes leave couples regret it and the downside is that unfortunately it is too late.

The truth is that you are having your BEST DAY EVER once and you simply cannot re-create it. You cannot undo it and you cannot change decisions that you have taken. So I am absolutely urging every couple to think about: moments and atmosphere that you have on the most important day of your life! Think about that you would like to remember this day full of emotions and joy!

A Quick Answer is: In terms of Wedding Photography Cost variation – You get what you pay for! Simple and true. If you really like a wedding photographer, that you have reached out to – book him!

What is included in wedding photography packages?

What’s covered in a wedding photographer’s prices?

When researching wedding photographers, be sure to read the information about their pricing and packages carefully—these tend to differ widely from photographer to photographer and can greatly affect wedding photography pricing. A few items and services to look for include:

  • Time: Of planning, scheduling, obviously photographing.
  • Travel: Travel time and cost. I personally do not change for travel within Ireland, but some photographers do. Just be aware of that.
  • Second Shooters: If you would like to add a Second Photographer – it is a separate cost added.
  • Editing: A large part of my time will be spent editing and retouching your wedding photos to make sure they look absolutely amazing.
  • Images: Your actual images. Digital files can be provided to you in a variety of ways including in an online gallery and/or via a USB drive.
  • Print release: Many wedding photography packages include a “print release,” which means that you can use the photos for your own personal use. However, be aware that you will likely not have a full “copyright release,” so you don’t own the photos and can’t sell them, and that your photographer can use your photos for marketing purposes.
  • Prints: Some photographers include photo prints (or a print credit—money you can put toward purchasing prints) in their wedding photography rates. While you don’t have to purchase your prints through your photographer, they’ll likely come out better if you do.
  • Albums: Your photographer may offer a wedding album as part of the package. You can choose whether you’d like to design and purchase your album through your photographer or do it through another service. Again – I personally create a story within your wedding album.
  • Additional shoots: Sometimes I include an engagement shoot in your package – but It also can be done seperatley (62 percent of couples do a pre-wedding engagement shoot).
  • There are other, less obvious parts of a wedding photographer’s business that may be included in their package pricing, which include equipment, employees, business expenses, marketing, liability insurance, and more.

Extras, Albums ?

Sometimes the cost of a package can be higher, if a wedding album is included. Many photographers keep them as a separate optional extra to purchase as it involves designing the album in a meaningful way.

This is a separate workflow on it’s own.

It is cheaper to get an album reserved at the time of booking photographer, and maybe albums for your parents. This will help on reducing the time for designing and also will help you manage the budget – if you know you are going to be buying an album – why not reserve one now?

Conclusion, Summary

  • I truly believe that there is no "average cost" that is strong enough to believe on its own.
  • You have to do the research yourself and see if you like the photographers work and if you trust him/her.
  • Remember that after your wedding, only your memories and photos will stay with you – nothing else.
  • So please make YOUR decision and avoid disappointment as after the wedding it is too late!

Wedding Photography is a small buy yet very important part of your day.

We had such an amazing experience with Arthur from start to finish. We had our engagement shoot in two different locations in Kilkenny and nothing was too much for Arthur. He was so accommodating throughout the whole experience. He made us feel so at ease and worked seamlessly and unnoticeably throughout our wedding day. Thank you again for creating memories to last a lifetime.
